Meet our Featured Member, Pat Dean; President of Trench ‘N Edge headquartered in Lake Elmo, MN.
Pat’s company, Trench ‘N Edge, is a small manufacturing company that makes and sells walk-behind trenchers for agricultural, irrigation, landscape and construction use. Many of the company sales were to Australia but Pat wanted to break into China. He worked with UCBC to hire Aygul (AJ) Jilil, who came to Minnesota as UCBC’s first intern from the University of Beijing. AJ translated and put up a Chinese website, translated sales materials and made contacts in China to begin selling and promoting his products.
Pat mentioned to UCBC that he was having trouble receiving payment from a distributor in Taiwan. AJ, with UCBC, contacted the distributor and discussed the situation in Chinese and the distributor promptly paid Pat.
Pat said, “I never expected that. I guess it is all about the relationship.”
After AJ returned to China she continued to work with Pat – and sales are brisk.
